My most recent series of small-scale drawings originated from several collections of family photographs purchased in bulk on the internet. Exploring the analog snapshot as both image and object, these drawings emphasize both the pictorial and the sculptural, playing on tensions between abstraction and representation, scale and density, clarity and illegibility, preservation and destruction. By using drawing as a method of bringing myself into direct relation with a subject, everyday moments in the lives of strangers become intimate ruminations on the ways that we lose and preserve memory, create personal histories, and attempt to come to terms with impermanence. -Nicole Capps, 2013
